New ProsFor those relatively new to the PR industry, just out of college, or even still finishing up an undergraduate degree, New Pros is the group for you! Geared toward those in their first five years of the profession, New Pros provides valuable professional development programs and networking opportunities in the Greater Kansas City area.

While content is focused on helping New Pros learn about the industry, events are welcome to attendees of all experience levels, from current college students and local PRSSA chapters to members of senior management. Events are held every other month and offer the chance to make valuable new connections while hearing from those established pros who remember what it's like to be in your shoes.

Would you like to receive updates about our New Pros events? These events are a great opportunity to make more professional contacts and build relationships with other new pros! Sign up for our new pros email list by sending your inquiry to Alex Miller.

Next New Pros Event: Focus on yourself in the new year: Attend our expert panel discussion on career advancement for marketing communicators

January 10, 2017
5:30 PM to 7:30 PM

KU Edwards Campus—Regnier Hall
127th & Quivira
Overland Park, KS

Start the year off by learning what the people who hire marketing professionals are looking for. We’re putting together a first-class panel of agency leaders and for-profit/non-profit corporate communications executives to get their takes on important questions like:

  • What skills do they look for in hiring candidates at their organizations?
  • What are the differences between working for a company or an agency?
  • What makes a good resume and what about other formats like an online portfolio?
  • How much do they value a master’s degree or a professional designation like the APR?
  • Is it acceptable for a recent graduate to submit samples of work from college?
  • How important are things like networking events, informational interviews and other ways to build your personal brand?

Come prepared to ask what you’ve always wanted to know and use the information to help you position yourself for further career growth. Networking opportunities with other participants (and the panel) will be available before and after. We’re partnering with the Integrated Marketing Communications master’s degree program at the KU Edwards Campus and the event will be at their convenient and comfortable facility in Overland Park.

Confirmed panelist include Liz Hawks, Sr. Vice President, Fleishman-Hillard; Lainie Decker, Director of Communications, New Directions Behavioral Health, Eric Morgenstern, CEO of Morningstar Communications and Gene King, APR, Director of Corporate Communications at H&R Block.
